Room 13 is for toddlers age 12 months to 18 months. In this room children are transitioned from bottles to sippy cups. Sippy cups are provided but parents are more than welcome to bring preferred cups from home. Also, children are transitioned from high chairs to size-appropriate table and chair for meal times and cots rather than cribs. The classroom is equipped with an intercom directly linked with the office for the safety of your child. There is also a fridge in the classroom for those parents that bring in food or milk from home for their child. The ratio in this classroom is 4 children to 1 teacher. In this room skills are taught by hands-on, multi-sensory activities allowing children to make sense of their environment through play and meaningful experiences they can relate to and understand. Curiosity is a strong motivation to learn during the early years so activities are planned to foster and satisfy their curiosity. Weekly themes are coordinated with the activities and incorporated into daily activities. At this age level there is emphasis on the fundamental language skills, gross motor development and coordination through music and movement, fine motor skills, sensory experiences, exploratory learning, naming body parts, self-help skills, increasing independence, social responses and awareness and parallel play.
